Pan American Enterprise Green Hydrogen Plant – Relocated from Texas to Australia

Project Overview

An Australian company developing green energy projects needed hydrogen production capacity without waiting through a new engineering and manufacturing cycle. Phoenix Equipment identified an unused 60 Nm³/hr containerized green hydrogen plant in Brownsville, Texas that had already been built, assembled, and was available for relocation.

Phoenix acquired the plant, identified the Australian buyer, and managed the transaction and international relocation from Texas to Australia.

The Challenge

The buyer needed hydrogen production equipment on a schedule that a conventional new-equipment procurement could not easily meet. Purchasing new equipment would have required additional engineering, manufacturing, delivery, installation, and integration time before the project could move forward.

An existing unused system offered a different path. Rather than wait for a new plant to be fabricated, the buyer could evaluate a complete system that was already built and available for international relocation.

Why the Existing Plant Fit the Project

The available system was a 60 Nm³/hr green hydrogen plant designed to produce hydrogen through PEM water electrolysis. The containerized package included hydrogen generation equipment, compressors, skid-mounted process systems, and associated components. The plant had been built in 2018 and had never entered commercial production.

Its condition and configuration were both important. The equipment was unused, while the containerized and skid-mounted design reduced the amount of field dismantlement required and made the system well suited for relocation. Rather than breaking down a large conventional facility into hundreds of separate components, the major equipment could be prepared for shipment in the transportable packages in which it had already been configured.

Because the plant was already engineered, manufactured, and assembled, the buyer could focus on acquisition, transportation, import requirements, and reinstallation rather than beginning a new fabrication cycle.

Technical Documentation & Reinstallation Planning

Relocating an existing process plant requires more than moving the physical equipment. The buyer also needed the engineering information required to reinstall and integrate the system at its new location.

Phoenix sourced specific engineering and technical drawings for the hydrogen plant to support the reinstallation effort. Those drawings helped the buyer plan the installation without recreating technical information from scratch, reducing the amount of reverse engineering required at the new site.

Managing the International Transfer & Buyer Requirements

Phoenix worked with the buyer to address several practical requirements associated with moving the plant from the United States to Australia. These included Australian import requirements, the buyer's SAP vendor procedures, international shipping coordination, additional engineering information, and documentation needed for reinstallation.

The project ran from July 2021 through January 2022, with Phoenix coordinating the relocation of the complete green hydrogen plant from Brownsville, Texas, to Australia. The equipment arrived in Australia in January 2022 and was inspected by the buyer upon delivery.

Project Outcome

The approximately $800,000 project transferred a complete unused green hydrogen plant from Texas to Australia and addressed the technical, administrative, and logistics requirements needed to support its redeployment.

For Pan American Enterprise, the transaction recovered value from equipment that had been built but never entered production. For the Australian buyer, it provided access to an existing PEM hydrogen system without beginning a new manufacturing cycle, while Phoenix helped manage the import, documentation, shipping, and reinstallation-planning requirements associated with the transfer.

From an Idle Plant in Texas to a Green Hydrogen Project in Australia

The equipment itself was only part of the project. Successful redeployment also depended on import compliance, vendor onboarding, technical documentation, shipping coordination, and reinstallation planning.

Phoenix connected an unused green hydrogen plant in Texas with an Australian buyer and helped manage those requirements through delivery. The result was an existing PEM system redirected toward a new green energy project without waiting for a completely new plant to be manufactured.
