Phoenix Equipment is pleased to announce the availability for sale of a large-scale Integrated Coal Gasification Facility formerly associated with Tampa Electric’s Polk Power Station Unit 1 in Polk County, Florida. The facility features a TEXACO/GE-designed, entrained-flow, oxygen-blown gasification system capable of producing 162 MMSCFD of syngas, formerly used to support a 315 MW gross IGCC power generation configuration.

Polk Unit 1 was commissioned and placed into commercial service in late 1996 as one of the few integrated gasification combined-cycle coal gasification plants in the United States, with partial funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Coal Technology Program. The coal gasification portion, which converted coal into synthetic gas, was retired at the end of 2024 as Tampa Electric upgraded Unit 1’s combustion turbine systems for more efficient dual-fuel operation, primarily on natural gas with diesel oil as backup.

This facility represents a rare opportunity for companies seeking proven gasification, hydrogen, syngas, power generation support, and chemical processing assets without the cost, risk, and extended timelines associated with new construction.
