Project Overview
Georgia Gulf had a sodium chlorate plant in Plaquemine, Louisiana that had been shut down for nearly ten years. Phoenix Equipment purchased the plant and assumed responsibility for complete removal and demolition of the facility at no cost to Georgia Gulf. The approximately $1.25 million project ran from January through June 2007.

The Challenge
After sitting idle for nearly a decade, the plant still contained reusable process equipment, recyclable metals, and structures that had to be removed. Phoenix needed to recover the viable assets while completing full dismantlement and clearing the footprint for future use.
Equipment Recovery, Resale & Recycling
Phoenix sold the plant’s crystallizer section to a chemical company in Argentina and recovered more than 30 additional pieces of equipment for resale. Phoenix also recycled more than 200,000 pounds of non-ferrous material and approximately 1,500 tons of carbon steel as the remaining plant was dismantled and removed.
