Overview

Used desalter designed to process maximum 3,000 BPD of dry crude oil. Design basis: API Gravity 23, Minimum Inlet temperature 260 °F, Maximum Wet inlet BS&W 10%, Maximum Oil Density @ 260 °F 851 (kg/m3), Maximum Oil Viscosity @ 260 °F 3.78 cP, Maximum Dilution Water Salt Content 1,000 mg/L. The desalting process includes three steps: (1) Single Stage Mixing. Salty crude is mixed with dilution water upstream of a mixer valve. As the salty crude and dilution water pass through the mixing valve they are efficiently mixed by utilizing a pressure drop of 1 bar. The dilution water has a lower salt content than the produced water in the crude. The salt content of the produced water is now diluted by addition of the dilution water. The mixed fluid then enters the desalter. (2) Dilution Water Heating. The dilution water is heated to the minimum inlet temperature before it is mixed with the Salty Crude. This process can be done utilizing a heat exchanger or any other method that the client wishes to utilize. (3) Desalter/Dehydrator. The desalter consists of an electrostatic dehydrator. The inlet fluid is effectively distributed along the whole length of the vessel by the use of the inlet distribution manifold. It is specially designed to provide full length utilization with elimination of mal-distribution. Additionally an open bottom design allows sediments to drop out under gravity to eliminate possible clogging of the distributors. The wet oil passes upwards and passes through the electrostatic grids. At this point an electrostatic field is applied to the wet oil, utilizing an AC-Plus (AC) field, where the water has been coalesced into larger droplets, the water falls out of the oil to very high efficiencies leaving extremely only extremely small quantities of diluted produced water behind with the oil. The water is removed from the oil at the bottom of the vessel utilizing multiple water outlet points. As the water content of the oil leaving the desalter is extremely small and has been diluted by fresh water, the effective salt content left behind in the oil is very small.
